PhotoSeed represents an evolving online record of the early fine-art photography movement. It is the private archive and passion of collector David Spencer (Spence).

Working with Spence it was easy to see the passion regarding his extensive collection and his knowledge on the subject of early photography. It was important to create an online space that did justice to the beauty of the work in his collection.

The home page presents users with a random full screen mosaic of photography pulled from the database of site images. Users can then refresh the page to see new images – always seeing a new selection on the home page that allows them to dive straight into a specific image within the collection. Throughout the site, visitors can save works and collections to their lightbox for sharing.

The site is built to be easy to use and easy to populate... while carefully designed not to interfere with the beauty of the remarkable images. Once the site is fully populated with Spence's complete collection, it will contain over 5,000 scans of original images.
